Sustainable Water Supply Management and Livelihood Improvement in Sikkim State under Sikkim’s flagship Comprehensive Water Resources Plan (SCWRP) (2017-present) IWF is working with the Water Security and Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Sikkim to create an umbrella framework for achieving livelihood security and inclusive growth of the communities in Gangtok and Melli by promoting optimal and effective development. IWF has emphasized sustainable development through value chain linked utilization of the State’s natural resources, especially water. The Foundation has facilitated access to technological interventions and offered expertise on engineering support for resource monitoring and modelling. It also created awareness on and implementation of best water-management practices including water harvesting, strengthening water storage infrastructures and securing water quality for optimum water-use efficiency.
Integrated Basin Development Livelihood Programme in Meghalaya State (2012-present) As Knowledge and implementing Partner of the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, inputs by India Water Foundation institutionalised the IBDL Programme on four pillars of knowledge management, natural resource management, entrepreneurship development and good governance, united by a convergent and cross-cutting approach. Water was at the core of this project, which has transformed lives, leading to the inclusion of this model in UN Best Practices.
